Newport City Living

Newport City Council works in partnership with a number of local Housing Associations to help people who cannot afford to buy a home without assistance to get a foothold on the property ladder.

Newport City Living (NCL) offers a range of homes in various locations across the City. These homes will be part of larger privately developed estates in conjunction with National House Builders.

Applicants will be able to buy a new home at a percentage of the value of the property with the remaining percentage of the purchase price loaned to them by one of the following Housing Associations: -

• Fairlake Properties
• Melin Homes
• Linc Cymru

NB: There will be no rent or payments on the loan. Instead you repay the loan if you decide to sell the property or staircase up to full ownership in the future.

If the applicant decides to repay the loan the amount repaid is based on the market value of the home. For example, if the loan was 30% of the value of the property the applicant will be required to repay 30% of the current market value of their home.

If the applicant decides to sell the property the Housing Association would usually have first refusal or may nominate an approved purchaser from the NCL register. This procedure will ensure that the properties maintain their affordability over a long period of time.
